Bike Rollers? =&sku=16868&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename=Shop%20by%20Subcat%3A%20Trainers%20and%20Rollers
My boyfriend is an avid biker, though he does it for fun, not competitively. Living in Central New York with all the snow puts a damper on his winter riding though, and I was thinking of getting him a set of rollers for Christmas. I know that he likes rollers more than the other kind of trainers, but I don't know much else.
I found these after getting some hints from his friends on what to look for, but I wanted some opinions. Is this quality?
It's so much cheaper than the things I found at general sporting goods stores, and seems to be of better quality too (most of what I found was $300 for plastic) so I think this is good, right? Please share your opinions and feel free to make other reccomendations too!
Money is kindof an issue-I can't afford to go too much higher than what this one costs.
thanks so much for the recommendation, Bob...really, I should try Nashbar.com...you mean the site that I already included a link to? Wow, you are really just unbelievably helpful!
/end sarcasm.
I'm sure he just didn't see that link, I'm just being silly.
I'm going to assume the same is true for the girl posting before him, since I can't even consider her recommendation, it's 3 times more than I can afford to pay.
From the sounds of things I'm going to take my chances with Nashbar, and cross my fingers that I don't have problems with their shipping...the fact that they use USPS seems to be the common link in all their complaints (thanks for that link, good to know what I'm getting into), but I've gotten neutral or positive feedback from all of you, I'm going to go ahead and get this one. Thanks to all of you (yes, even you Bob!) Bman replied: "I have purchased things from Nashbar in the past and it appears to be pretty good quality. If he cycles for fun I imagine that this would be fine."
Wurm replied: "Although they are listed favorably on the BBB website, perhaps you should check out this link.
As far as the item itself...I've never shopped for one."
scott.braden replied: "I'm a regular Nashbar customer, have never had a problem with their stuff and their customer service has always been good. They are owned by the same company that owns Performance Bicycle, another big catalog/web store that also has an excellent reputation.
Those look like good rollers at a great price, I say get 'em."
Merrily replied: "I was looking at rollers last year but never purchased them. From what I remember kreitler seemed to be the best for a variety of reasons (just can't remember off the top of my head). Here's a link to their low end systems, it's about 299, The high end was 499.

Does anyone know where i can buy rollers in las vegas? are there any stores that are dedicated to cycling only? zinnprojectbig replied: "First, check this:
And REI sells rollers. Go to the REI in Hendersonville, NV.
And try Peleton Sport Bikes in Las Vegas.
Dude, I'm in Iowa and I found this stuff!"

Coach Levi replied: "Unless you really enjoy building things and happen to have all the materials, building your own rollers won't be cheap. And the quality will be questionable.
E-motion rollers are one of the most expensive. You can get by just fine with a $110 set. I love the Performance Bike Travel Trac rollers, see link below.
Performance Bike also does a nicer set of rollers a little more like the E-motion ones if you want." Plane,Train,Boat,Push bike,Motor bike,Roller blading, jet rocket or whatever.Whats your prefered way to travel? (and cars too of course)And why,is it the creature comfort,or the bumpy adventure,or why exacly do you like it?
thanks!
Personally i love to drive my car because of the freedom, and I like to fly on planes thats always a rush.
And long journeys on trains too,I love the sense of adventure and I like trains in general, including modern and old steam trains :) Mountain Top replied: "I prefer to fly (my own plane - and yes I'm a pilot) for the sheer speed and freedom of movement. I fly at what are known as flight levels (above 18,000 feet), and most of the general aviation traffic is below me, and the airliners are above me, and I have the sky to myself.
When I'm late, the airplane is there waiting for me. If I'm early, it's ready to take off. Take that, airlines !
Driving is a bummer because there are too many people on the road - most of whom don't really know how to drive. If it was like the Autobahn is in Germany - then I'd love to drive.
Finally, I have an off-road purpose built Jeep - a great thrill to go places where few others can go - and those that do - are kindred spirits."

going for a walk everyday for 30 minutes.
eliptical machine for 30-45 minutes.
bike/ roller blade for 30-60 minutes.
i'm planning on doing this everyday this summer so i can stay in shape, but i was wondering how many calories i could lose by doing these things everyday.
thanks for the help! Fun Skater replied: "first of all - take any calorie information with a grain of salt.
If it does not include intensity of workout, weight, and fitness it is assuming those things for you and may not be correct. There are other things that will affect it but are impossible to put in a chart.
The calorie and distance counting machines seem to be particularly optimistic. Maybe to make you feel good so that you do more.
Here is an article that discusses the differences between types of excercise.
It does not include inline skating. Inline skating is between running and bicycling for typical intensity but is not hard on the joints as running. It also works different muscles than either of them and does more for core balance.
Here is a chart for inline skating with the data done by University of Massachusetts.
Inline skating is not on some of the usual charts but this should be about as accurate as you can get.
Here is a chart that you can use to compare between various types of exercise.
Calorie calculator" How much weight will I lose in three weeks? (1,000 calories a day)? I'm 14, 5'4, and 135 pounds last time I checked (I've been too afraid to step on the scale lately)

I get AT LEAST 30 minutes of actual exercise each day (biking, roller blading, runnning, etc.) A C replied: "You may lose some at first, but soon your body will stop and go into starvation mode. You really aren't supposed to eat less then 1200 calories a day. If you need to lose weight, maybe try exercising a little more."

Deathscythe replied: "Roller skating would probably do the best of all those, but to really tone up your butt and thighs, I suggest doing squats. It'll really pull at your sides, back, and stomach too! For calves, running, biking, standing calf raises (raise up on your tip toes 40 times a day then back down flat on your feet.)
is also a great source of information."
